The second week
It is going a little better everyday, I really found my spot here, I got tonnes of stuff to do all the time so I have barely time to be bored. Only the mornings are still difficult, when I wake up and don't know what the day is going to be like. So I get a bit homesick again and nervous. But I just have to go on so I hope that will disappear too. In the evenings I am so tired because of all the new things I experience all the time and the full days. But I just try to sleep a lot so I can process everything. (Which also shows in my dreams because I have been dreaming a lot about home and the strangest other things ;P)
Okay, so what have I been up to last week?
In the weekend I went to the swimming pool with my house mates. It felt really weird to do something so normal while being on the other side of the world. But it was fun and we went to a cheap grocery store afterwards, so I could do groceries for the whole week. On sunday I went to look at a car, because I decided I wanted to buy one. I thought it would be way easier to go places and would provide a lot of freedom. So a Kiwi friend drove me there and helped me judge it. We had some time left, so he drove me up a hill near Christchurch which gave an incredible view over the city and the sea!
On monday I had school and in between class we went to check out the car again. And... I bought it!! Wow, so exciting and scary! I don't know anything about cars and know I have my own! It is a green Honda Civic from 1992. It did need a service so I immediately did that. In the evening I went to a beer tasting organised by the Beer Club of the university (I know right?! So cool when an uni has a beer club!) Which was really fun and I tasted some very good beers!
On tuesday I had a full day of school and on wednesday we had a field trip day. So we went with fruit crop production to a nursery in Amberley. Really interesting how passionate the owner was and how everything worked there. I had the rest of the day off so I decided to go hiking with some people. Only one problem.. My car didn't start.. After some help of some other people it did (no one knows how or why..) and they were going to a beach so we followed them. We went to Birdling's flat which was a beach with many small round smooth rocks and waves of 3 to 4 meters high. I felt so small, while nature looked so powerful! Then we 'hiked', more like rock climbed, around the lake. We hoped we could go around, but eventually we had to go back because the lake was slightly bigger than we thought. But it was awesome, a real adventure :)
On thursday and friday I had school and went to the garage to let my car be fixed, but they did not know what the problem was. There were also some parties on campus which was fun to get to know more people!
On saturday we left at 7am to Kaikoura. Luckily my car started after a few attempts, because I was driving. So with four people in my car I started the two and a half hour drive, through the beautiful landscape of New Zealand. We went through mountains, over them, through meadows and past the ocean, it was stunning! When we arrived in Kaikoura we went on the peninsula track. It was so amazing! Beautiful views, climbing up hills, walking along the beach, tramping through sheep meadows and seeing many many many seals! You almost tripped over them, because they were chilling in the bushes and on the beach and on the track. You could almost touch them (so I almost took a seal pup home), but signs said we couldn't :p After the walk we went to get ice cream (it is so good there so we just had to try!) and we drove further north to Ohau point. There is a walk to a waterfall there where seal pups are playing in the water. It was the cutest thing ever, they were chasing each other and jumping out of the water and playing dead. It was absolutely adorable. But it was getting dark already so we had to go back. This was another adventure, because the road didn't have street lights! So I am really proud of myself that I managed to drive the three hours back in the dark. Everyone in the car was sleeping, so at least they thought my driving was comfortable enough ;) and I enjoyed looking at the stars, did you know you can see the milkyway every night here?!
Oh and mom, I don't want to make you jealous but the weather has been great this week, blue skies and sunny everyday! Good luck with the storm there!
I hope you all enjoyed reading about my week again! Talk to you soon! Miss you so much!
